Hight Quality Upscale" Plugin

Are included the Windows version of 4 plugins developed by Nicolas Robidoux and Adam Turcotte from Universite Laurentienn/Laurentian University and compiled for Windows by Francois Collard

once installed the plugin will be available in the Image/Hq Rescale/submenu with cryptic names as
1"EANBQH"
2 "EANBQHgamma"
3"IBFNBQ"
4"IBFNBQHgamma"
That names are the acronym of the algorithms used,
"EANBQH" correspond to " SMOOTH"
"IBFNBQ" to "SHARP"
postfix "gamma "indicate added gamma correction

The developer consider this plug-ins a preliminary version, more exactly were a proof of concept to demonstrate the quality of new Upscaling algorithms (when they were proposed to the gimp developers ,they should be included in GEGL in the future)

But ,as they are, already offer better results for upscaling, and this for me is the basic point and a good reason to package and mirror the Windows version, also because a simple hack to the original plugins registration paths was sufficient to improve usability

About how to install see "how_to_install.txt" included

Upsize Plugin

The code for this plugin was recently refined and released as Upsize (http://registry.gimp.org/node/19582). It is not currently available for Windows, but feel free to port it if you find it useful.

It combines IBFNBQH and EANBQH into a single plugin and is slightly faster than older versions. I hope you enjoy it.

Upsize Plugin

thank i see that there is already a Windows build here
http://www.aljacom.com/~gimp/upside_20-10-2009.zip

As now I don't know how to delete the older from the plugin list
anyway for sure i may edit the comment to point to the new version

Same for the page on DA , i will fix tomorrow

We should remove the old

We should remove the old plug-in then, at least from the Plugin Registry.

How ?

i see option for edit not for delete
where is ?

This may be a task for Ingo

I only see options to edit plug-ins and script entries, as well.

Where is the source?

So its GPL and *barf* Windows only. Where is the source so we can get this working on a real operating system?

the link for the source was included...but the author modified the page
because...point 2

...a improved version of same algorithms is now part of Gegl (and so may be included soon in gimp) anyway...

...Francois_C (http://www.registry.gimp.org/faceted_search/results/author%3A9553) that did the win build and the authors (Nicolas Robidoux and Adam Turcotte from Universite Laurentienn/Laurentian University ) should have a back up copy (i lost mine for a HD crash)

but thank to point out, i will remember to upload the source here next time

Where are IBFNBQH and EANBQH going?

Expect a CC/source version soon.

A few comments:

IBFNBQH and EANBQH most likely will never be part of GEGL because they are global methods and GEGL works much better with local ones.
For this reasons, these methods became "back burner." (Apologies.)

Adam Turcotte and I are thinking of using them as "finishing schemes" (in a plug-in) for Nohalo and Snohalo, antialiasing resamplers which we implemented for GEGL as part of Google Summer of Code 2009 with Eric Daoust and Chantal Racette. This "S/Nohalo-IBFNBQH" hybrid would be very good, but ... back burner, given that the S/Nohalo methods are still evolving (both within GEGL, and also within the image processing system VIPS/NIP2) and that have moved our focus to local methods.

(Best regards to Photocomix and Francois Collard.)

I really like the results of this plugin.

Meant to post several weeks ago when I first started using it but I got sidetracked and forgot. Kudos to your friend PC for sharing it with us.

Rescaling

I get better resukts with Sinc, so I would prefer the old one.

Rescaling

well sinc (laczos) give good results, what the best result depend on the imagine and the scale factor

Anyway the plugin do not replace standard scale option just add new ones, 2 "sharp" and 2 "smooth".
