If the installation process

If the installation process went smoothly you should have no problem opening it, I guess something went wrong though so if I were you I would try to install it once more. If that doesn't work try using a file extension software, you should have no problem with that.

This has been answered in

This has been answered in this thread already - twice.

to save/open dds format?

Put the files you want to open/save in simple path directories like: c:\xxx.dds c:\DDSfiles\xxx.dds

Had same problem

I had the same problem but that was because I did not install it to the right directory. Put it in the plugins folder which is found C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins or which ever directory you installed it in. Try opening a .dds and it works ^_^. P.S. I know that this post is old however I thought i would post my solution just in case someone had same problem since the other reply was no help at all.

lol cheers

dds file

i installed the plug-in successfully but i don't have any dds file to test it. anyway, i could save a dds file and then reopen it without problems.

Well I'm completely lost. I

Well I'm completely lost. I downloaded what I think is the DDS plug-in 'gimp-dds-2.0.7.tar.bz2' and it sits in my download directory but nothing on my PC will open it to extract the content. Tried copying the entire thing to the plug-in directory but nothing happens when I do. In the end discovered that WinRaR will extract the content even though it doesn't volunteer to do so when you click on the download. However, to my surprise instead of finding an application inside the package similar to all the other plug-ins in the plug-in directory in fact there is a folder called gimp-dds-2.0.7 inside which there are numerous text files and files with unrecognisable file formats. Clicked on the one marker instal and was asked if I wanted a to seek a suitable program to access it. I've copied this folder into the plug-in directory but was not surprised when it simply got ignored. So, I'm working on the theory now that what I downloaded can't really be the plug-in at all. Is there some reliable means of obtaining and installing this tool?

Hope this helps...

I clicked on the link provided in the first post and then clicked on the homepage link found in the first post of the following page. I then scrolled down to the "Download" section of the homepage. He gives you two options: you can download the source (tar.bz2) or the win32 binaries (.zip). Unless you're wanting to compile your own version, you'll want to download the win32 binaries. Once you have downloaded the folder, extract it, copy the dds.exe file, and paste it into your "\\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\" folder. You should be able to open and save .dds files now.
